Defeats Trinity 6-0 to Earn Final-Four Appearance

TN---Weather forced play indoors at the Racquet Club of Memphis
(Memphis, TN) on Wednesday afternoon (5/12), where the Amherst
Jeffs defeated the Trinity Tigers by a score of 6-0 in opening
round action of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships.
Amherst
opened strong, sweeping all three doubles matches. At #1 doubles
the Jeffs' pairing of Tristan Hedrick and Rachel Holt downed
Trinity's Hayley Dittus and Heather McGowan (8-1). At the
#2 spot, Wallis Molchen and Kristen Raverta of Amherst defeated
Trinity's Christy Austin and Megan Suarez (8-3). Amherst's
#3 team of Hadley Miller and Erin Murphy also defeated Trinity's
Jackie Mendillo and Leigh Pankonien (8-4).
Amherst
continued its momentum as singles play began. Needing only
2 points to secure a spot in the semifinals, the Jeffs earned
3 points nearly simultaneously. Raverta of Amherst defeated
Trinity's Dittus at the #2 spot (6-3, 6-2), while the Jeffs'
Miller defeated the Tigers' Austin at the #4 spot (6-2, 6-4).
Just after the match had been decided, the #3 singles match
finished with Amherst's Holt defeating the Tigers' Mendillo
(6-3, 6-1). Numbers 1, 5, and 6 singles did not reach completion.
Amherst
will move on to face Williams in the semifinals tomorrow at
Rhodes College (1:00pm).
