Gordon/Taylor Claim Second Consecutive National Championship

Memphis, TN---After a grueling week of both team and individual tennis competition, two Emory University women's double teams faced each other in the final match on the last day of the Division III Women's Tennis Championships.

Senior Mary Ellen Gordon (2004 ITA Senior Player of the Year) and sophomore Jolyn Taylor defeated their Emory teammates, senior Margaret Moscato and junior Carina Alberelli (2004 ITA Player to Watch), in doubles play by the score of 6-2, 6-1, earning the national doubles title for the second year in a row.

In the first set, Moscato and Alberelli were down 0-2 but then came back to win both the third and fourth game. Unfortunately, their efforts to topple the defending National Doubles Champions fell short thereafter, as Gordon and Taylor won the next six straight games en route to the championship.

"When you have teammates competing against one another, you just let them have fun," said Emory's Head Coach Amy Smith.
