Gordon Claims Second Consecutive National Championship

Memphis, TN---For the second consecutive year, Emory senior Mary Ellen Gordon was crowned national champion after she defeated her doubles partner, sophomore Jolyn Taylor, in the finals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis National Singles Championships.

This year, Gordon and Taylor each cruised to the final match without losing a set. This year's actual championship match between the two players, however, went the distance. It took Gordon 7 match points to finally defeat Taylor by a score of 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-5.

Today's singles win is Gordon's second Championship of the week, as Emory University also won the National Team Title earlier this weekend. She will go for her third Championship of the week later this afternoon, as she and doubles partner Taylor will play their semifinal match in the doubles championships later today. Gordon and Taylor are the defending champions in the doubles competition, having won it in 2003.
